Dr. Meg Messina, Artistic & Music Director, Conductor
Music Director and Conductor Dr. Meg Messina is enjoying her 22nd year at Mineola High School, Dr. Messina has developed a choral program that embraces singers of varied experience. Her singers have been heard in local, regional, and national honor choirs and on stage at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. The program may be best known for its frequent collaboration with the community, other ensembles, and composers. Dr. Messina has enjoyed guest conducting honor choirs and frequently presents workshops highlighting instructional methods and innovative programming.
She holds degrees from The University of Delaware and Hofstra University, where she studied music education with Dr. Paul Head and Dr. David Fryling, respectively. She completed her Ed.D. at Hofstra University where her research interests included instructional methods and critical thinking in choir. Dr. Messina’s local and regional work has included organizational positions with NMEA, NYSSMA, and ACDA. Her performance work includes many years of collaborative piano work with soloists, singing with Long Island’s eVoco Voice Collective, and international performance with the Delaware Choral Scholars. When she isn’t working, studying, or arranging music, Dr. Messina can be found in Massapequa raising two incredible daughters with her husband, who is also a Long Island music educator and public school administrator.
Matthew Ingrao, Accompanist
Matthew Ingrao is a pianist based in New York City, entering his second year with the Mineola Choral Society.
He started playing piano at the age of three, and has always had a passion for the instrument and music as a whole that he loves to share with others. He accompanies many vocal groups and church choirs throughout the Long Island area, and also has a small studio of private piano students. He is known for his sensitivity to singers and his ability to adapt across many styles and genres.
Matthew holds a degree from Adelphi University in piano performance and music composition. Aside from accompanying and teaching, he still finds time to perform in both solo and group settings.
Recent repertoire and experience includes Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Chopin’s Four Piano Ballades, and even traveling to New Zealand to play for an opening act of a Coldplay concert. He always finds a way to keep music in his life, and hopes to have a future in performing and composing.
